Mount Alexander Shire is a Local Government Area in Victoria, Australia. It is located in the central part of the state. The largest town is Castlemaine. Other towns within the shire include: Maldon and Newstead.
It has an area of 1,531 square kilometres and in 2001 it had a population of 17,100.
