Mother Goose Stakes

The Mother Goose Stakes is a thoroughbred horse race for three-year-old fillies. The race is the first leg of the Triple Tiara of Thoroughbred Racing. Run at a distance of one and one-eighth miles on the Belmont Park dirt, it is a Grade I with a purse of $250,000. Its fiftieth anniversary running was in June of 2006.
The Mother Goose is named for the filly who defeated colts in the 1924 Futurity, one of only l3 fillies to have won the Futurity since its inaugural in l888.
Serena's Song won this race in 1996, Sky Beauty in 1993, Go for Wand in 1990, Mom's Command in 1985, Davona Dale in 1979, Ruffian in 1975, Chris Evert in 1974, Shuvee in 1969, and Cicada in 1962.
