Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture

School of painting, sculpturing and architecture - the Moscow school of painting, sculpture and the architecture, the largest alongside with St.Petersburg Academy of arts the maximum art educational institution of Russia.

It was based in 1832 by Egor Makovsky and A.S. Yastrebilov as the Natural class; in 1833-1843 - the Art class; in 1843-1866 - school of painting and sculpturing of Moscow art society. In 1865 the Palace architectural school was attached to it. In 1918 it was transformed into 2 State free art workshops. More democratic in comparison with St.Petersburg Academy of arts, the school played an outstanding role in development Russian National realistic art in the second half of 19 - the beginning of 20 centuries.

In this school was studied and taught such artists as: Léopold Survage, Vasily Perov, A.K. Savrasov, Illarion Pryanishnikov, Vladimir Makovsky, Isaac Levitan, S.A. and K.A. Korovin, Abram Arkhipov, Mikhail Nesterov, etc., here some artists also taught as: Vasily Polenov, Valentin Serov, etc., studied S.V. Gerasimov, Anna Golubkina, Sergey Konenkov,A.I. Kravchenko, Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin, A.A. Plastov, etc.

In 1918 the School was transformed into the Second State Free Art Studios. Later the Studios became two Universities: Surikov Moscow Art Institute (Московский Художественный Институт имени Сурикова) named after Vasily Surikov and Moscow Institute for Architecture (Московский Архитектурный Институт).
