Wikipedia:Mormon collaboration
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Mormon Collaboration is an effort to improve Mormon-related articles in Wikipedia, with a casual aim of creating a feature-standard article during the month-long cooperative editing process. Anyone can nominate an article or vote for a nominated article.
The project maintains a list of previously-nominated articles, a list of winning collaborations, and a partial list of participants in the project.

[edit] Selecting the next collaboration
The January 2007 Mormon Collaboration article will be selected on Monday, January 1.
[edit] Nominating an article
To nominate an article for the Mormon collaboration, follow this process:
I. |
List Entry Addition
Edit this article, and append the following to the end of the list:
Be sure to replace Article with the title of the article you are nominating. Please do not mark the edit as minor. Save the page. You should now see a link to the nomination page in the text; follow it. For example, this is needed to add Emma Hale Smith to the list of nominations:
|
II. |
Nomination Creation
Add this text to the new page:
Put the page's name in place of "Article" and include your reason after reason=; nothing else should change. For example, the entry to nominate Emma Hale Smith would be:
If the page was not originally empty, the above text should go at the beginning. Check the "Watch this page" box if you would like to follow the voting process in your watchlist. Save the page. |
III. |
Talk Page Notification
If the page you are nominating already exists, please add this text to the top of its talk page: |
[edit] Voting
If you support an article, please vote by clicking on edit by the article's title, and add a new line with the text "# ~~~~". This will add your username and the time you signed automatically. Please add comments that might help others .
- Please only add support votes - opposing votes will not affect the result as the choice is done by approval voting (the most votes, wins). Note your opposition under the Comments section.
- Vote for as many candidates as you like.
- A vote implies that you will make some contribution to the article if it is chosen.
- Only registered users should vote.
- Being Mormon is not a requirement to vote!
[edit] Selection
Each month, the collaboration is chosen based on the article with the largest amount of support. In case of a tie, the candidate that was nominated first wins.
When a new selection has been made, the {{Current Mormon COTM}} template should be placed on the successful candidate's article page, and the following files need to be updated:
- Wikipedia:Mormon collaboration
- Wikipedia:Mormon collaboration/current, which will automatically update Template:Mormon COTM, Wikipedia:Goings-on and Wikipedia:Community Portal
- Wikipedia:Mormon collaboration/History

[edit] Temple Square
This is Utah's most popular tourist attraction[1][2] and is expected to receive between 5 and 7 million visitors this year.[3]. It is also the headquarters of the LDS Church and one of the most important sites in the Church. The article itself is little more than a stub, and unfortunately cites no sources. If we work on it, however, I think we could get it up to at least GA standard by the end of the month.
I was originally going to nominate the Salt Lake Temple, but I like the wider perspective of this article. Of course, the temple is still a very important site, and I will probably nominate its article at a later time. --Lethargy 23:00, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mormon pioneers
It would be great to have this article featured on the front page for Pioneer Day in 2007, the 160th anniversary of the first company's entry into the Salt Lake Valley.

- Since it takes awhile for an article to be approved for the front page, I'm guessing we should aim to have this up to featured status a month or two before July.
- Also see Mormon handcart pioneers, which became a featured article a short time ago.
[edit] Baptism for the dead
With an expanded lead section, more references and inline citations, and some copy-editing, I think we can get this to Good or featured standard.
