(b. 1954) is a son-in-law of the late Grand Rabbi Naftali Halberstam (1931-2005) of Bobov.

Upon the death of his father-in-law Grand Rabbi Naftali Halberstam, Bobov split in two. Many chose to follow Rabbi Mordechai Dovid, while many chose to follow Rabbi Ben Zion a half-brother of Grand Rabbi Naftali Halberstam.

Before the funeral of Grand Rabbi Naftali Halberstam, in his house; his sons-in-law; Rabbi Mordechai Dovid Unger and Rabbi Yehoshua Rubin were both announced as the successors of their father-in-law Grand Rabbi Naftali Halberstam in the presence of the Rosh Hakahal (Lay President) of Bobov Rabbi Moshe Meir Einhorn, and other important Bobover Hasidim; with how to divide the leadership, to be decided among them. On the next day the coronation of Rabbi Mordechai Dovid Unger as Grand Rabbi (Rebbe) (אדמו"ר) and Rabbi Yehoshua Rubin as Chief Rabbi (Ruv) (אבד"ק) took place in the Bais Yakov building (its temporary Beth Midrash) on 45th Street in Boro Park in the presence of a few hundred Bobover Hasidim.
