Moody County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Dakota, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the population is 6,595. Its county seat is Flandreau6.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,350 km² (521 mi²). 1,346 km² (520 mi²) of it is land and 4 km² (1 mi²) of it (0.27%) is water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 6,595 people, 2,526 households, and 1,763 families residing in the county. The population density was 5/km² (13/mi²). There were 2,745 housing units at an average density of 2/km² (5/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 84.91% White, 0.29% Black or African American, 12.01% Native American, 0.56% Asian, 0.06% from other races, and 2.17% from two or more races. 0.76% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 2,526 households out of which 35.60% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.70% were married couples living together, 8.50% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.20% were non-families. 26.40% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.20% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.12.

In the county, the population was spread out with 29.10% under the age of 18, 7.20% from 18 to 24, 26.40% from 25 to 44, 22.30% from 45 to 64, and 14.90% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 99.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.00 males.
