Montreal Road (Ottawa)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Montreal Road (Ottawa Road #34) is a major east-west Ottawa road that links Lowertown to Vanier, and eastern neighbourhoods of Ottawa.
From its west end, starting at the Rideau River bridge crossing (extension of Rideau Street), it becomes Vanier's main road as it passes through the commercial heart of the community.
East of St. Laurent Boulevard, it becomes a four-lane principal road which divides several neighbourhoods such as Beacon Hill and Rockliffe Park.
It ends at Highway 174 where it becomes St. Joseph Boulevard which runs through the older portions of Orleans Village until Trim Road.
One of the main features includes Montfort Hospital, Ontario's Francophone Hospital.
There are bus lanes between North River Road and St.Laurent Boulevard so the transit service can speed up during the rush hours. Future plans by the city includes the extension (probable) of the North-South LRT corridor on this stretch all the way to Blair Road. However, if this project is realized, it is still many years away.
Montreal Road until downloading in 1998 was part of Highway 17B
