Location of Montan in Italy

Montan (German) or Montagna (Italian) is a comune (municipality) in South Tyrol in the Italian region Trentino-South Tyrol, located about 35 km northeast of Trento and about 20 km south of Bolzano. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 1,592 and an area of 18.9 km2.[1]

The municipality of Montan contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Gschnon, Kaltenbrunn (German) Fontanefredde (Italian), Glen, and Pinzon.

Montan borders the following municipalities: Aldein, Capriana, Neumarkt, Auer, Salurn, Tramin an der Weinstrasse, and Truden.
