Monorails in Malaysia

After the success of Kuala Lumpur Monorail, there have been numerous proposal laid out to increase the users of public transports and to ease the congestion of traffic. Monorails have been choosen as a more popular mode of public transport as supposed to light rail for its quietness, easy to construct, cheap, and non-obstructiveness [[1]].

[edit] Kuala Lumpur
The Kuala Lumpur monorail system in Malaysia opened 31 August 2003, and serves 11 stations running 8.6 km with two parallel elevated tracks. It connects Kuala Lumpur's main station KL Sentral with the "Golden Triangle".
[edit] Sunway city, Selangor
The monorail circuit in the Sunway city will be revived and linked with the KTM Komuter Setia Jaya station (to be renamed Sunway station). It will serve the Sunway city including Sunway Pyramid mall and Sunway Lagoon theme park and the surrounding.

Putrajaya Monorail system is being constructed now in Putrajaya and it will be linked to the KLIA Transit Cyberjaya/Putrajaya station. It consists of 2 lines; one line will be 12 km long with 17 stations and the second will be 6 km long with six stations.

The Malaysian Government has approved a monorail project on Penang Island. It will consist of 2 lines and will connect the Penang Ferry Terminal as well as the Penang International Airport.

The government is in the process of finalising the project in Johor. Johor Maglev Monorail will consist of one line, connecting to the Central station near the Johor Causeway and will boost development in the Wilayah Pembangunan Iskandar.

The latest addition to Malaysia's monorail system will be the mini-monorail system in Malacca, particularly in the popular historic sites. It has been given a green light by the Chief Minister of Malacca for the planning and construction of the project[[2]]. The monorail would start at Melaka Sentral and connect to Semabok, Melaka Raya, Kota Laksamana and return to Melaka Sentral. It would also cross the Malacca River before returning to Melaka Sentral, he said.
