Monk Montgomery

Monk Montgomery (born October 10, 1921 in Indianapolis, Indiana; died May 20, 1982 in Las Vegas, Nevada) was a jazz bassist. He is perhaps the first electric bassist of significance to jazz, but he also played acoustic. He is the older brother to guitarist Wes Montgomery with another brother Buddy playing vibraphone and piano.
His professional career did not start until after his younger brother Wes, specifically when he was thirty. From 1951 to 1953 he worked in Lionel Hampton's Orchestra. After that he worked with his brothers and also free-lanced. In his final years he was active in the Las Vegas Jazz Society, which he founded.
