Blue Bolivar Blues is a slight modification of the title of the original Ba-lue Bolivar Ba-lues-are title of the composition featured in Thelonious' 1957 album with Riverside, Brilliant Corners.

Five Spot Blues was originally called Blues Five Spot, another composition by Monk that first appeared in the live album Thelonious in Action, which was recorded at the Five Spot Cafe in New York in 1958.

Monk's Dream, Bye-Ya, and Sweet and Lovely had also been previously recorded by Monk with Prestige Records.
