Mong Cai pronunciation  is a city in northern Vietnam on the border with China. It has a population of about 78,000. It is known as one of the wealthiest cities in Vietnam with the average income in some areas exceeding 20.000 USD per family. One of these areas is the Tran Phu ward.

The volume of trade between Vietnam and China through the Mong Cai border gate rose to 1.7 billion USD in 2005, the highest among the Vietnam-China border gates. In the first five months of 2006 the volume jumped to 1.2 billion. Mong Cai will become a big city with multiple industries by the year 2020. Mong Cai is also known as "Market city" because five big markets are located in the city center. Tourists can find anything from A-Z there.

Because of the nearby Tra co beach, Mong Cai attracts many Vietnamese tourists who come every year from Hanoi or Haiphong, the biggest cities in Vietnam. With two five-star hotels and a great number of private hotels and guesthouses, it is very easy for Mong Cai to provide more than adequate lodging for tourists. As Vietnam develops economically, Mong Cai has a wonderful opportunity to become a great trade city in the future.

Many languages are spoken in Mong Cai. Everyone speaks Vietnamese as the native language. Cantonese is widely spoken in center market and English is becoming the second language of the younger generation. Chinese mandarin is also spoken there, especially in commercial areas.
