Molly Mallard
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Molly Mallard is a fictional character of the Scrooge McDuck Universe, created by Don Rosa for the Duck Family Tree which accompanied his story cycle The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. The Family Tree was first printed in Norway in 1993. As of this moment Molly has only ever appeared in the aforementioned poster and not in any actual stories. Molly's name might be a reference to a Dublin fishmonger Molly Malone from a famous Irish folk song of the same name. However Don Rosa has admitted he does not remember anymore how he came up with the name.
Not much is known about Molly's life. Deduced from the birth years of her children, it may be assumed that Molly was born sometime around 1805. She was married to a Glasgow coal miner Dingus McDuck and carried him three sons:
- Angus McDuck, born 1829
- Jake McDuck, born 1832
- Fergus McDuck (1835-1902)
Fergus was the father of Scrooge McDuck, thus making Molly the paternal grandmother of the latter. Molly's other grandchildren according to Don Rosa's stories are Scrooge's sisters Matilda and Hortense. Through Hortense Molly is a great-grandmother of Donald Duck and a great-great-grandmother to Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck.
