Molehill Green

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Molehill Green is a small hamlet on the edge of Stansted Airport which consists of approximately 40 houses. It has one pub called The Three Horseshoes, a small village hall and a shop. Most of the houses are named rather than numbered, and it has only one named street, School Lane. The hamlet was originally called Morrells Green, which is now the name of a small holding of new houses in Takeley.

Molehill Green is geographically located in Essex but its postal area is Hertfordshire. Nearby are the hamlets of Chapel End, Broxted and Takeley.

Most of its residents are employed at Stansted Airport and most of the houses are owned by and rented out by BAA plc. In spite of that, it has recently been the centre of meetings for the Stop Stansted Expansion pressure group.

The main road through the village runs to Thaxted via Broxted.

There is also another Molehill Green located near to Little Dunmow.

[edit] Transport

There are now two bus stops in Molehill Green. One by the Post Office used for school bus routes and one at the entrance to the village.

[edit] Trivia

  • The pub was once used as a scene backdrop for the TV series Lovejoy.
  • The hamlet has its own blacksmith.
  • The village, though small, has two postcodes. CM22 and CM6. CM6 is postally for Dunmow and CM22 for Takeley. CM6 covers Chapel End which is at the end of Molehill Green
