Mokujin (木人?)(Wooden Person) is a character in the Tekken fighting game series inspired by the Jackie Chan movie Shaolin Chamber of Death. He is a wooden training dummy who comes to life at the presence of powerful evil. He has no fighting style of his own, and instead swaps between the fighting styles of the other characters. In this aspect, mastering Mokujin requires knowledge of the other Tekken characters' movesets.

[edit] History

[edit] Tekken 3

Mokujin, a wooden combat training doll made from a 2,000 year-old oak tree, was awakened when Ogre, the God of Fighting, was released. After Jin Kazama defeated Ogre in The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3, Mokujin grew lifeless once more.

[edit] Tekken 5

With the awakening of another powerful evil entity (Jinpachi Mishima), Mokujin has come to life once more. In Mokujin's Tekken 5 ending, Mokujin defeats Jinpachi, and Jinpachi turns into dust aftwerwards. Because of Jinpachi's death, Mokujin becomes lifeless once more and falls to the ground. Dark clouds move across the sky, a small beam of light hits Mokujin's nose, and a small leaf sprouts up from Mokujin's nose.

[edit] Trivia

  • Mokujin is the only character not to be featured in any of the opening scenes of Tekken 5.
  • Mokujin did not make an appearance in Tekken 4. His role was filled by Combot, though the robot differed as it could not change fighting styles between rounds.
  • When fighting and using the moves of Yoshimitsu, Mokujin adapts Yoshimitsu's sword. In Tekken 5, he also adapts a tail when fighting as the boxing kangaroo Roger Jr. (though in Tekken Tag Tournament, Mokujin lacks a tail, but can still use Roger's moves utilizing one.) In addition, in Tekken Tag Tournament, when using the moves of Kunimitsu, he will adapt her dagger. These rules also apply to Tetsujin, Unknown, and Combot.
  • There is also a pro wrestler who goes by the name "Mokujin Ken" , or "Ken the Box". Notably, when Mokujin's command list is viewed, it will only show the word "Mokujin-Ken".
  • The alternate costume for him is in fact a female version (it has a breasts-shaped chest, a flower rather than a leaf and a twig on the top of the head, pink eyes rather than red, and the torso ends on a skirt-shaped formation). The different selections do not affect moves or the videos played.
  • Mokujin made a cameo appearance in Namco's Point Blank 3, where the aim was to shoot him. He also made a cameo in the crossover game Namco X Capcom where he is the 'training dummy' used to test combos and such in training mode. He has 99999 HP and cannot fight back. The only thing that will end the fight scene with him is just by either running out of time or branch.
  • Mokujin cannot be customized in Tekken 5. However, in the update, Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, Mokujin can be fully customized like any other character.
  • Mokujin appears in the Negima! manga during Negi's martial arts training, whereas a team of Mokujin promptly beat Negi up and stretch a student's underwear by accident.
  • After Mokujin defeats Roger Jr., his Stage Four sub-boss, in his Story mode, what Mokujin says to Roger Jr. is the same thing that Wang Jinrei says to Ling Xiaoyu after he defeats her.
