Alichen-Mokokchung-DEF refers to the continuous settlements in Mokokchung District that stretches from Yimyu through Mokokchung town to Alichen on one hand and from Mokokchung town to Fazl Ali College campus and then to Chuchuyimpang and D.E.F.colony. This almost continuous settlements are on Ongpangkong range and are located at altitudes between 1050 to 1400 metres above sea level. Mokokchung town, the epicentre of the urban hub stands at an altitude of 1325 metres.
Mokokchung-Yimyu-Alichen occupies a very important position in Nagaland. It is the largest settlement hub in Nagaland after Dimapur-Chumukedima and Kohima. It is at the juncture of five major highways of Nagaland. The NH-61 passes through this area. Educationally, it has been the leader in Nagaland. The institutions of Mayangnokcha Higher Secondary School, Fazl Ali College and Clark Theological College has churned out Nagaland's best leaders over the last five decades.
Mokokchung town's population is around 40,000 while Mokokchung-Yimyu-Alichen has a population of around 62,000.
