Mohammad Ashraful(Bengali: মোহাম্মদ আশরাফুল)(born September 9, 1984 in Dhaka) is a Bangladeshi cricketer who is widely regarded as talented but inconsistent as a batsman.
Ashraful is the youngest batsman to make a Test century, a feat he achieved on his debut. He was a day younger than 17 years when he scored 114 against Sri Lanka on September 8, 2001.
Ashraful is regarded as a precociously talented batsman capable of playing all kinds of shots in the book. But he has thrown away his wickets from impregnable positions many times in his career, an ungainly trend often attributed to his youthful impetuosity.
He seemed to have come of age in December 2004, when he scored his second century - a mammoth 158 not out - against the touring Indian cricket team, and as a result now holds the record for the highest individual Test score by any Bangladeshi. He also became the second Bangladeshi to score an ODI century, making exactly 100 in Bangladesh's win over Australia at Cardiff in the NatWest Series on June 18, 2005 followed by 94 off 52 balls against England. He scored a magnificent 136 against Sri Lanka which hepled his team get a respectable total. He scored another two half centuries in the one day tournament against Srilanka but since then he is running out of form which has become a rather consistent feat of his career. He was rested a match against Australia hoping to get back his form which didn't change anything.
He was recently appointed captain of the Dhaka team in Bangladesh's domestic one-day cricket competition.
Currently he is playing for Rainhill CC in a local cricket league in UK.
