[edit] Hangar One

Does anyone want to address the fact that the navy wants to tear down Hangar One because it is full of toxics? --evrik 15:08, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

Can someone write about why the military is always the worst pollutors? Every closed down military base is badly contaminated. Did these people abuse their power because no one can question what they do with the land. If any corporation causes pollution, they are fined. Should the same be done with the military? • I don't know about the military being "always the worse". Mostly it's because the bases are decades old, and standards have changed. Painting a building with lead paint and insulating pipes with asbestos didn't used to be considered polluting the environment, for instance. And they used a lot of chemicals that aren't found in the typical corporate campus. And often the proposed new use of the land puts more people on it.
As for fining a department of the government, to whom would the fine be paid--another branch of the government?

  • Yes, standards have changed - and often the government is left to clean-up the work of tohers though not in this case). --evrik 14:31, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
  • Full of toxics? They gave me a tour, at least. - Reaverdrop 06:46, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
