List_of_drug-free_Wikipedians

I am not a Rastafarian, that is a Cognition slur (classic cult member behaviour, see Lyndon LaRouche) but Cognition was tampering with my comments for which he has been reported and which I will certainly take further action on if he persists in this manner. Tampering with the comments of other users on wikipedia when those comments are not a personal attack is at all times unacceptable on wikipedia. Please take note, SqueakBox 18:54, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

I have copied this to Wikipedia talk:List of drug-free Wikipedians. Please both respond there where I have also answered Cognition's latest comment, SqueakBox 22:13, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi again. See Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:List of drug-free Wikipedians. I personally think the category you created was great as it allows people to express their drug-freeness without making POV statements, and that the page should be deleted now we have the category to replace it. Unlike Cognition, who I feel has used the page to promote anti-pot activism, you seem to just want a list of drug free people without turniung things into a political debate so I hope you will vote to delete the page but it would be good to see your vote either way, SqueakBox 16:56, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

Wikipedians accused of being possessed???

I dread to ask... -- Francs2000 03:16, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

It made me realise how nosey I was being but your message did make me chuckle... I have never been accused of being possessed but then I don't tend to hang out with religious types and didn't grow up in a religious family. I have heard of it among friends though so won't pry. -- Francs2000 03:36, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

Ah, you see I went to university at a time when the British government paid for students to go - a system that you don't have in the States (and we don't have any more over here either). *Sigh* those were the days, when education was free and all... And I am a quarter American so my grandfather's genes must have rubbed off somewhere along the line... -- Francs2000 04:13, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

Me too! TTFN -- Francs2000 04:20, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

Esperanza Election

SWD, as you are probably aware, the Esperanza elections are coming up. After running for the advisory committee last time, with some degree of success, I have decided to run for the same post again. I noticed that you (graciously) voted for me last time. I hope I can count on your vote again! Working together, we can make Wikipedia a better, more inclusive place. Yours in Esperanza, Jdhowens90 19:45, 13 December 2005

Nom

Hi there, do you remember? I noticed that there is some conflict going on and was wondering if you would like to put it off a few days. Your userpage has been vandalized 3 times today, if you dont mind my asking, wtf is going on? Still, I dont mind doing it tomorrow at all. P.S. I have been informed that there will be a power cut tomorrow from 07:00 to 14:00 UTC. I planned on doing it at 19:00 UTC, but just in case the cut goes over time, I dont want you to be alarmed. Cheers Banes 15:33, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

Ok, is it fine if I nominate you at 19:00 UTC tomorrow? Banes 19:25, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
Ah, the vandals, it does seem peculiar though. My userpage has only been vandalized once by someone I didnt know in the real world. The other 2 vandalisms were by people I knew personally who did it as a prank. Oh well. Sadly, I am expecting "Battlefield 2" for my birthday and I have to put up with a power cut, how annoying. Still, I look forward to making you my third successful admin nomination. Cheers Banes 19:32, 13 December 2005 (UTC)

P.S. Any suggestions on what to write in the nominator comments section:-)?

It is done, good luck. Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/SWD316 2 - Banes 18:42, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you, but a word of friendly advice: Rather dont place comments below oppose votes, I know Rock09's number of edits is suspect, but preferably let others work that out themselves. I am not chastising you, it isnt really any of my business, but when a candidate rebutts statements some other editors frown upon it. Rather stay away from it and let me, and others, do that. Thanks for bearing with me, I hope I havnt sounded too rude... Banes 20:45, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

Glad to hear it. For the record, I am not "against" Mcfly85 per se. Heck, I dont even know him. But as I said on the RFA, the diffs you fixed do make one wonder. Anyways its been a long day for me, and its getting on for midnight, so, I'm off for now. Good luck Banes 21:13, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

Your RfA

Sure thing! I thought you were one already, though. --Merovingian 00:43, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Your withdrawn RFA

I am sorry that you felt the need to withdraw your RFA and quit Wikipedia over the actions of one vindictive editor and some probable sock puppets. I think once the facts came out, your nomination would have fared much better. I hope you change your mind and don't let this one user drive you away. -- DS1953 05:13, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Agreed. You're a good bloke, and it's this is truly sad. Reconsider, won't you? Some advice- Transformers: The Movie is a classic, watching it always cheers me up. Some [[MST3K}MST3K]] DVD's are good for some laughs too. Give it a try. -- Sean Black 05:18, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
Grr... don't let a sock-fest drive you away. Everyone loses, except them. Take a break and then think for a bit, all right? But come back! Titoxd 05:35, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

I am truly sorry to discover that your rfa has backfired to make a good editor pack up and leave. Please reconsider. Cheers 'Banes 06:06, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Keep your chin up and don't let the negative comments on the RfA overwhelm the good work you are doing. You still had more support than oppose votes. Continue to earn the support votes and try your best not to give new arguments to the oppose votes. If you do that, and still want the extra tools, they will eventually be yours. -- DS1953 23:13, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

RFA

Don't take what happened too hard, it was nothing personal at all. You do good work editing and I hope you continue. TruthCrusader

Your withdrawn RFA

I too am sorry that you let the needles of Mcfly85 and his sockpuppets get to you, but your hastily withdrawn RfA and "I Quit" message only confirm my opposition. An administrator should be able to handle people like that with aplomb. For the record, I was in no way influenced by what he and his puppets had to say; I have a great deal of experience in AfD where we deal with puppets (of both the sock and meat varieties) constantly, so it was obvious to me what was happening. My opposition was based solely on your contribution record and I tried to give you constructive advice. I'll repeat: show me that you understand and are able to implement Wikipedia policies while keeping your cool when dealing with idiots, and I'll gladly support you. Additionally, please consider the wisdom imparted at WP:GRFA: Administrator status is not a trophy. Editors who regard being an administrator as an affirmation of their contributions as an editor or an award for good editing or other good service will generally be disappointed. Administrator status does not place you in an elevated status within Wikipedia. Every good-faith editor, from the newest editor to the most experienced bureaucrat, has the same status within Wikipedia. You will not gain respect simply by being an administrator. Hope to see another RfA for you when you can demonstrate that you will wield the administratorship honorably and I will most definitely support you at that time. Regards, Howcheng 07:34, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Your withdrawn RFA

Well, I can speak for everybody here, as I'm sorry to see you go in such a way. As you helped me in my Wikistress situations, I wish I could help you in a similar way. I'm shocked to see you leave off of a foolish sockpuppet. Given the time, things would have been taken care of, and your RfA could have been successful. Throught my year here at Wikipedia I was faced with similar problems, and sometimes I felt like exploding. If nothing else, this was a test to see if one really has what it takes to become a Wikipedia admin. The thing about having more abilities, is having more responsibilities. In my three days of being a rollback enabled RC patroller, I've had my userpage already vandalized, as well as seeing my fellow RC patrollers have their user (talk) pages replaced with penis pictures. It only gets more difficult. But remember, it took me over a year to get my adminship. And even so, I didn't get full support.

I see you have the potential to be a good admin. I hope you could take this more as a wikibreak, than an actual resignation. -- Lbmixpro 09:45, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Your withdrawn RFA

I am always disturbed when good editors get chased off the project by the Rfa process (which is itself inherently at fault). I have seen to many good editors go this way. Hope you come back, don't let the bxxxxxds grind you down, SqueakBox 15:16, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Hey

I apologise for what I'm about to say but SWD316 is a much more valued contributor than that of a possible sockpuppet with only 12 edits. --Celestianpower 15:47, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
12 edits...some of which are vandalism. I hope to see you back soon SWD316. Just cool off and relax for awhile.... Banes 18:38, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
Yes, but you made him leave. There's no excuse and stop wasting our time. --Celestianpower 19:23, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
Although, arguably, "he obviously must have a low mental capacity" falls under NPA. Banes 19:34, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
The issue at hand is that you, at the very least a new, vandalous user, has boycotted his RfA, despite not being eligible to vote at all. As a result, a valued contributor has left. Then you come here adding salt to the wounds and argueing about WP:NPA. You have no right to do such a thing and we are standing up for a Wikipedian in good standing. Did you see the support voters? All of which I have at least heard of and a great number of which are Administrators. I think they have better knowledge of the Wikipedia system, policies, guidelines and community than you. I really shouldn't be getting so annoyed but when the system allows people like you to tread all over valued contributors, I do get angry. Look, I said that without resorting to personal attacks, unlike youself, "He obviously must have a low mental capacity" indeed... --Celestianpower 21:46, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Idiots in the RfA

You wrote:

If you knew there was, what you call, idiots on my RFA disrupting the process, why didnt you do anything about it? I could only handle Mcfly85 for so long. You can remain cool only for so long before it gets annoying. I know that being an admin doesn't place you at a better position, I just wanted an fair opportunity at being an admin without conflict from outside users like Mcfly85, Rock09 and Sigma995 that influence voters.

I didn't feel like anything needed to be done that hadn't already been done. The two diffs that showed your edit to Mcfly85's user page and the subsequent vandalism to your user page were enough to discount his vote (although like Banes said, there's no direct evidence that it was him). Lord Vid had already remarked how Rock09 had less than 10 edits at the time of his vote and someone else had shown that Sigma995 had only 4 edits at the time of his vote, so what else should I have done? The information was already there for everyone else to see. I don't want to sound pedantic or cliché, but there's that old saying from The Art of War, (something like) "If your enemy is destroying himself, there is no need to attack." All you needed to do was let them say what they wanted to say and any intelligent/experienced Wikipedian would have been able to figure it out. Instead, you got yourself all worked up and withdrew your RfA when you didn't have to. Treat this as a lesson to be learned and you'll do all right next time. Regards, Howcheng 07:52, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

Hope you're back soon

Sigh... another great user driven off by trolls and their socks. And I didn't even get chance to vote on your RfA. Hope you come back soon, and I'm sure your next RFA will go great... just make sure to drop me a note so I can be first to vote and fight some trolls! the wub 15:56, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

Hmm...

You may want to look at the history of Frank Beard. And, less interestingly, the history of Wayne Newton. I just thought this might interest you. Cheers Banes 17:42, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

The fact that the Frank Beard article is so, small, and relatively un-edited, it is interesting. Personally, I am not that keen on going after socks, but, cant you get a checkuser? Anyway, I thought it might interest you in future matters.... Banes 17:54, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
I would suggest you bounce it at Celestian and see what he makes of it. Banes 18:00, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
Looks a bit suspect to me. I definately advise getting a Checkuser. here shows all of the people with this power. --Celestianpower 18:05, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
Yes, you should/could :) ^^ --Celestianpower 18:16, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

"Against policy"

Nothing currently on your userpage violates any WP policy so no, there's not need to change it. Hope you're feeling a bit better :). Did you notice the Esperanza elections are going through - you're not doing too badly! --Celestianpower 17:23, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

Yeah it would seem so lol and I'm glad you're feeling better. You should definately vote... ...for me!!! --Celestinapower 17:30, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
Yay! Go me! --Celestianpower 17:40, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

"Against policy"

It's not against WP policy, but if taking it out makes him leave you alone, do so. But it's good to hear you're feeling better. Titoxd 18:45, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

Enough is Enough

So long as he's not violating WP:NPA then he can say whatever he likes on his userpage. --Celestianpower 17:28, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

Sockpuppets of Mcfly85

Checkuser show that one of the ip addresses used by McFly85 was used to create Petergrif, Rock09, Barkman34, Belligto, Manyana555, Sven66, Salian45, Capnoh, Jimcrocela, Loolooloo, Oneandon, Sigma995, Tobiasafi and 4benson3. Mcfly85 also used 13 other ips, many in the 63.18 range. Fred Bauder 19:46, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

Hey (to SWD316) I am really chuffed to hear that my little piece of evidence has finally cleared your name. To blow my own trumpet, I carefully checked through the histories of the few articles that the "suspects" had edited. After about 30 minutes, Frank Beard came up, this was last night. Tonight I accidentally (while trying to find Frank Beard again) found the Wayne Newton article, and then I felt certain. I tried to e-mail you but you dont have it enabled, so I posted the message. So, there you go, congratulations on being right all this time! It is a shame you have withdrawn your RFA, in future, you ought to give these things more time. Anyway, happy editing. All the best Banes 19:57, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

Renomination

I've renominated you for adminship based on the wrong that was done to you previously. However, as I don't really know you well enough, I am voting neutral. Please indicate if you accept. --Nlu 19:58, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

Discounting Mcfly's vote

Sorry, but no, his oppose vote does count. He himself is not a sockpuppet and has ample edits. Unless he's blocked, he can vote. --Celestianpower 21:58, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

RfAr against Mcfly85

I'm about to bring a WP:RFAr against Mcfly85 to ask the ArbCom for an emergency injunction on this issue. Please add any comments there (properly formatted) if you wish. --Nlu 04:16, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Your RfA (3rd time)

Of course I didn't take anything you said personally. As far as I'm concerned, this is all business. I think what you need to do is trust that the rest of us know what we're doing. A nomination for adminship is stressful and it's understandable that people can get carried away, but if you want to succeed as an admin, you have to let it slide and assume good faith for the most part. As for Mcfly85 removing the <del> tags, I believe he's allowed to do that since he himself is not a sockpuppet nor has he been blocked. Again, that's something you should trust the bureaucrats to recognize. FYI, Mo0 who just got his adminship approved, is also bipolar according to his user page. Perhaps you should contact him and see how he handles it. Good luck and if you don't succeed this time, I hope you don't give up. Howcheng 07:16, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Apology

Thank you for the apology, and I, in turn, apologize for any aggressive comments I may have made during your RfA. Olorin28 12:13, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

RfA

SWD316, I appreciate you sincere explanation of yourself on my talk page. I don't doubt that you edit in nothing but good faith. However, I'm going to let my opposition stand. I'm sorry about the harrassment you received from Mcfly85, but I just think Wikipedia's administrator corps is getting more and more immature, and cannot in good conscience support the candidacy of someone who uses "gay" as a pejorative. Regards, TacoDeposit 15:29, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

My RFA

Thank you for your support. While I beleive it will not result in my nomination being granted, I appreciate it nonetheless and I will not forget it. Please think of me when I run again.Gator1 20:12, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

RFA

Sorry, but at that time I'm going to oppose your nomination. The sockpuppets in the previous RfA were obvious (red linked users with few edits) and any bureaucrat would've ignored them, but you went all crazy. That's something I don't expect from an admin candidate. You need to learn to deal with bad users in a more professional manner. Grue 17:27, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

I didn't call you crazy. But your reaction to previous RfA was crazy. Grue 21:49, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Your RfA

I am extremely sorry your RfA isn't going too well. At least now your slate will be wiped clean, and you'll get it the next time (hopefully). Don't give up. LordViD 22:37, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

Your RFA

No need to apologise to me either. I should be apologising to you for not being around for the first RfA and helping deal with the sockpuppets. the wub 23:07, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

Your RfA's

I know you've had a hard time at WP:RfA lately. Although your nominations didn't pass, your contributions to Wikipedia are still greatly appreciated, and I encourage you to continue editing without admin tools. If you address the issues raised by the oppose voters, you should probably stand a chance for promotion in a few months. --TantalumTelluride 22:45, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

Could you take a look?

Hi, sorry to hear about your RfA, It was a big mess, I'd be glad to change my vote on your next one if you keep on your current path. With that said, I was wondering if you could take a look at something involving the Randy Orton article. If you could have a look at this discussion and then have a look at this comment I would appreciate it. If my arguement has no merit I'd like to know in order to avoid a potential conflict over something so trivial. Thanks KnowledgeOfSelf 23:25, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

My RfA

Thank you

Thank you so much for your support of my RfA. The results of the request was 18/0/1. With the help of your support vote, I am now a bona-fide Wikipedia sysop/admin. I pledge to use my newfound powers for the good of Wikipedia and its editors. If you have anything to tell me, dont hesitate to "speak on it"!. --Lbmixpro

RFA

Hey, SWD, sorry I didn't respond earlier—I've been on a bit of a Wikibreak. And I'm sorry to see that your nomination did not succeed. RfA can be quite a harsh place, but I'm glad you were able to take criticism well; we all benefit from feedback and hopefully you can pick up a few tips for next time. I'll send you a more detailed message later, but I just wanted to say you're a good editor and I'm glad you're still contributing to Wikipedia. Knowledge Seeker 21:13, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

User page

It's a bit long and could do with a picture of you (brown hair and blue eyes really does it for me). Otherwise I like the scroll boxes - might nick that myself. Also the biography section is particularly good - easy to read. -- Francs2000 01:19, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

Userpage

Howdy, sorry for taking some time to reply but I've been without internet access for a few days. I think you userpage looks just fine, albeit a little long. If I were you, I would trim down the month by month wikipedia history, but it is your page. Otherwise, it looks great. I didnt fall for the "new messages" prank because I always hold my mouse over the link (unless I see the box at the top of an article) to see where it goes. Anyway I clicked on it all the same....
