Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah (Council of Torah Sages) serves as the highest ranking rabbinic policy board of the Agudath Israel organization.

Agudah's policies and leadership are directed by the council, which is comprised primarily of Rosh Yeshivas and Hasidic Rebbes. The Moetzes sets all major policies and guides the organization according to its precepts of Daas Torah.

Currently, there are two such boards: one serving the organisation in Israel, the other in the United States. Prior to World War Two, there was only one such body, serving the organization in Europe.

Some previous members of the council have been: Rabbi Isser Zalman Meltzer, Rabbi Aharon Kotler, Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, Rabbi Yaakov Kamenetsky, Rabbi Gedalia Schorr and Rabbi Mordechai Gifter.
