Moelv is the municipality of Ringsaker's second largest center. After the European route E6 turned around Moelv in the early 1990s instead of going straight through, the town enjoys the lazy small-town countryside living. Situated at the shores of lake Mjøsa at the mouth of the Moelva river, the town is bordered by green hills of a wooded character and by farmland. Home to some few thousand souls, the town consists of a few shopping centers, a railway station and some pubs and restaurants. Some small-scale manufacturing is still running, although much of the traditional industry has moved out of town, with the pace of globalization.

Ever since the stone age, Moelv and its surrounding districts has been home to human societies. Carvings in stone has been found, dating thousands of years back.
