Modiolus

The modiolus is the central bony pillar of the cochlea, but also an intersection of facial muscles located lateral to each corner of the mouth. The muscles that meet in this region include orbicularis oris, buccinator, zygomaticus major, zygomaticus minor, levator anguli oris, depressor anguli oris, and risorius.
