Model Engineering College

Model Engineering College (MEC) is a technology institute, located in the city of Kochi, in the state of Kerala, India. The college is affiliated with the Cochin University of Science and Technology and offers courses in Electronics and Biomedical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering.

The courses are all four years long, leading to a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degree. MEC is managed by the Institute of Human Resources Development, Government of Kerala. Many of the alumni work for Microsoft, Yahoo, NVIDIA, IBM, Analog Devices, Dell, Adobe Systems, Wipro, Infosys and other multinational computer corporations.

Model Engineering College was established in 1989 by the IHRD to provide quality engineering education in the industrial centre of Kerala. It was established as a self-financing college with a fair degree of autonomy. The college started functioning in August 1989 with three degree courses in Biomedical, Computer and Electronics Engineering. When it was started Model Engineering College was the first self-financing college under the Government of Kerala and was the first college affiliated to CUSAT.

The college was shifted to the present campus at Thrikkakara in September 1994.

The Model Engineering College though situated close to the heart of Kochi, is sufficiently removed from the hustle and bustle to provide a serene environment for higher learning. The college is on a hilltop in Thrikkakara, surrounded by vegetation and greenery providing a panoramic view of the city of Kochi and suburbs. The college is in proximity to institutions of research like Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL) and Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), industrial centres of Aluva, Kalamassery, Cochin Special Economic Zone - CSEZ and KINFRA Software park Kakkanad, VSNL international gateway.
