Mobile number portability

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mobile Number Portability (MNP) is taking your number from one mobile phone network to another. It enables customers to retain their mobile telephone numbers when changing from one mobile network operator to another mobile network operator.

The porting time may vary from two to three days. The porting charges depend upon the network you are porting to (limited to 29,95 Euro in EU). All the value added services that you would previously be using will be terminated at the time of cut-over.

[edit] Requirements

  • Your mobile number must be active with the other service provider prior to porting.
  • You can only port within a CSA (customer service area).
  • Your mobile number must pass pre-port validation, some leased numbers are not available to be ported.

[edit] Information required

  • Personal information (name, address and ID number)
  • Mobile number(s) to be ported
  • Names of original and new mobile network operators
  • Account information from previous service provider (Name, account number, id number and passcode/password)
  • Preferred cut-over time/date
  • Signature.
