Maureen "Mo" Harris (née Porter) is a fictional character in the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders, who has been in the series since 18 September 2000. She is played by Laila Morse. Mo was also played by Lorraine Stanley in a soap 'bubble' Pat and Mo: Ashes to Ashes, delving into the her past with Pat Evans, which aired in 2004.
Mo provides a background of light entertainment for the harrowing rape and incest that characterised the Slater family. Much of her time is spent wheeling and dealing with other residents of Albert Square. She'd had a rivalry with Pat Evans (her former sister-in-law) decades before, but it dissipated quickly after Mo's arrival in Walford.
Mo was born into an impoverished East End family, so she quickly became a fighter who wouldn't take nonsense from anyone.
Pat Evans is one of Mo's old adversaries from the old days. Johnny Allen had also riled Mo in the past, when they were youngsters. She has said now that no matter what Johnny is now, she will remember him for being a sap when they were younger.
Mo appears to suffer from piles, which she refers to in Cockney rhyming slang as her 'Farmer Giles'.
She had a brief relationship with Bert Atkinson, but ended it because Bert was sleeping with her friend, Ina. She recently got back together with Bert.
Mo is the mother of Charlie Slater's late wife, Viv, who was the product of a one-night-stand with a man called Stuart Mullins. She also has two children, Billy and Jean, with her late husband Jimmy.
