Mnemonic journey method
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The journey method (evolved from "Method of Loci") is a mnemonic for remembering arbitrary items. It exploits the brain's superior capability to remember images. The technique consists of associating images with the items to be remembered and depositing the images at landmarks along an already known 'journey'. The journey can be around a house, around a country, etc. The landmarks should be dissimilar. Recall consists of retracing the journey and pausing at the landmarks as the images pop to mind. This technique can be astoundingly powerful. For example, a person with ordinary memorization capabilities can, with about an hour of practice, remember the sequence of a shuffled deck of cards.
