Ml iPod

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The title of this article should be ml_iPod. The initial letter is capitalized and an underscore is substituted or omitted because of technical restrictions.

ml_iPod is a Winamp plugin that enables music to be loaded onto an iPod without using iTunes. The main attraction of the plugin being the ability to transfer files from the iPod to your computer, which is not possible with Apple's iTunes.

It is written mainly by Will Fisher, based on the original version by Justin Frankel and Christophe Thibault. Copy to hard drive feature by Daniel Green.

Due to the popularity of this plugin, Nullsoft added mobile device support natively in Winamp version 5.2, written again by Will Fisher. This update includes support for Apple iPods, Creative Zen and PlaysForSure certified devices. Because much of the functionality of ml_iPod is now native to Winamp, Will has stopped the development of this plugin.

Citing that Nullsoft's own support is not yet as powerful as ml_iPod, ml_iPod as of April 25, 2006, is being maintained and enhanced by Achim Bursian. Since then several updates have been issued, which included bugfixes as well as new features, like support for album art, podcasts and audio books.

[edit] Latest version

The latest version, 2.00, was released on November 3, 2006. This is the first version of ml_ipod to have full album art support.

There have been some patches since then, available for download
