Miyoshi Motonaga

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Miyoshi Motonaga (died 1532) was a retainer of the Japanese clan of Hosokawa during the Sengoku Period of 16th century Japan. Motonaga was the eldest son of Miyoshi Yukinaga. Throughout the year of 1521 Motonaga completed work on the stonghold of Miyoshi in Settsu, which he named the 'Mandokoro'. Motonaga served loyally under Hosokawa Harumoto and Ashikaga Yoshitsuna assisting them in their bid for power and lodging them at Sakai. However, Harumoto and Motonaga soon grew hostile to each other. Following the year of 1532, with the help of the Ishiyama Hongan-ji, Harumoto suddenly attacked Motonaga at the Kenponji in Sakai and forced him to commit suicide.
