I joined Wikipedia with an official username in June of 2005, but I'd been around for some time before that in a wretched IP address manner. Primarily I've tended to keep my edits down to typos, grammar, spelling, etc which makes me a wikignome, but lately I've taken the initiative of involving myself in higher aspirations. I hope one day to contribute my own article to this project, giving back to what I've oft quoted myself.
I do my best to assume good faith and make no direct personal attacks, but I unfortunately am a fan of sarcasm and humor and often when these are used in debates people lose their sense of humor and decide that it's vicious name-calling.
One of my biggest problems with this community though is the abuse by users who have a particular interest in a subject or (often the case) a celebrity and hoard edits to these articles that might otherwise render the subject/celebrity negatively. For example, Clay Aiken. These fangirls and fanboys often resort to meritless arguments and shallow attacks before leaving comments in message boards and blogs to get their friends to vote in polls and leave notes on talkpages.
Contrary to the opinion of some people, I do believe that someone can maintain a POV in their personal life without necessarily having it interfere with their decisions and edits in Wikipedia. Though often-times this is not the case.
I finally broke down and made a user page in March 06 after flopping on the issue many times. I'm not entirely of the opinion that we need these, but it at least helps to get my viewpoint across a little better in an issue and might help explain why I've vested as much time in a particular edit-war as I end up doing.
I also maintain a (moderately) frequently-updated website where I tend to rant, rave, curse a lot and make sweeping generalizations about vast and important subjects. [1] But I'm funny, so it's okay. ;)
[edit] Backstory
I currently live in New York City and have been here for over three years. NYC is astounding and everyone should visit it at least once, even if you can't live here briefly. I'm originally from New Orleans and don't miss the city now that it's underwater. I'm a writer, currently in the middle of my first full-length novel. I also am a musician and I play piano and sing. I'm gay, and very involved in gay-rights issues. In real life I'm a big advocate for them and in January 2005 I founded a non profit to further these aims.
I believe in gay marriage, though I don't see it ever happening in my life. I believe gays should be allowed to adopt children if they choose, though I personally despise kids. :P Given my interest in gay-related issues I guess it's only natural that I've been accused of perpetuating the vast gay agenda to my own ends. ;) Otherwise, I'm interested in politics, humanitarian causes, things like that. I feel that the world would be a far better place if instead of desiring to vault your own life above others' we spent more time concerned with how we can better the lives of our friends, neighbors, fellow human beings.

At the moment unfortunately nothing, but I hope that changes!
