Mitchell Gant

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mitchell Gant is a fictional US Air Force Major who stole the Russian MiG-31 Firefox fighter prototype in the novel and movie of the same name. It is established that Gant is an aggressor squadron pilot.

Gant suffers from paralyzing nightmares, which occur even while he is awake, a result of being shot down and being taken as a POW during the Vietnam War. According to the film, Gant's mother is from a Russian family, which was one of the main reasons he was chosen for the mission.

Gant also appears in three other novels by Craig Thomas; Firefox Down (the sequel to Firefox), Winter Hawk, and A Different War.

In addition to the Firefox, Gant is shown flying two other aircraft in the film. The first is an F-105 Thunderchief which appears in one of his Vietnam dreams. A few minutes later into the film, Gant is seen flying his F-5 Freedom Fighter aggressor.

In the film, Gant was played by Clint Eastwood, who also served as the film's producer and director.
