Mitchel McLaughlin

John Mitchel McLaughlin (b. 1945) in Derry city, Northern Ireland is the General Secretary of Sinn Fein.

He is an elected member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (alternatively the Six Counties assembly) which is currently under suspension (see [1] Northern Ireland Assembly entry).

Author Niall O'Dochartaigh quoted McLaughlin as saying he had joined the republican movement in 1966, and stayed with the Official republicans after the 1970 spilt but then later joined the Provisional republicans.

He is married and has three sons.
