[edit] She Loves You
Hey, I've responded to your objection on Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/She Loves You. Johnleemk | Talk 07:55, 15 Mar 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Softball rewrite
Hi! I moved George Hancock and reflected the change in your draft copy of softball. Great article, but two sugestions: move the box and field drawing to just above the first heading, that way they'll display next to the table of contents. And, put your History section as the first major section, ahead of rules, since a casual reader might be more interested in that section. Good luck and keep up the good work. Thanks, Lou I 10:59, 10 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Hurricane 12
I checked UNISYS [1] and it appears you were correct. 12 did form and spend most of its life in the Central Pacific. My bad. Go ahead and revert the edit if you haven't done so already. What a remarkable storm that was. Geez, I didn't think it was physically possible for a tropical depression, never mind a hurricane, to form that far north in the Pacific. Also notice that there was a Hurricane Katrina that year. Ha! The East Pacific was an intersting place in the early days of record keeping there(1949-1979). Another Hurricane Katrina passed into Arizona as a weak hurricane! Coincidence? You decide. ;)

[edit] your Guinevere Jones stubs were nominated for deletion
See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Guinevere Jones episodes. You created these back in April but they haven't been expanded since then. I didn't nominate them, just letting you know. -- Curps 20:11, 23 September 2005 (UTC)
[edit] DYK
Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article 1976 Pacific hurricane season, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page. |
[edit] Hurricane Linda
I removed the section because it was just a what if statement that had very little helpful facts in it. You have phrased it much better, but I still think it isn't a very notable incident (though I bet those people on the pier might have had to change their pants after that :) )

[edit] ISF
G'day Madeline,
I've had a mental note running for several months now to create an article on the International Softball Federation, and I see you've gone ahead and put down a stub. Good work! I love the map, by the way. --fuddlemark (fuddle me!) 23:51, 7 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Bret Image
Yeah, when I uploaded that picture, I made a typo in the filename and just uploaded another copy of it, that 1245z one. You can delete the 1915 one, but not the 1245 one. The 1245 is right. -- RattleMan 21:44, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Bounty Board
Greetings. You've recently been involved with working on get articles up to featured status, so I wanted to let you know about a new page, Wikipedia:Bounty board. People have put up monetary bounties for certain articles reaching featured status - if the article makes it, the bounty lister donates the stated amount of money to the Wikimedia Foundation. So you can work on making articles featured, and donate other people's money at the same time. If this sounds interesting, I hope you stop by. – Quadell (talk) (bounties) 22:20, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] 2005 season rewrite
Sorry if I sounded harsh on the season talk page. I actually agree with you that the season article should be rewritten, and your economic impact section in particular is good. I made my own little (more ambitious) rewrite at User:Jdorje/2005_Atlantic_hurricane_season. Here I have removed the "Storms" section entirely. The "Season summary" is renamed as "storm summary" (which is what it is) and gets a table of storms to go along with it. All the specific info about individual storms is moved into sub-articles articles. I think the next step is to add more text about the season *as a whole*. Jdorje 01:26, 4 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Alice2
Oh, okay, fair enough. I figured when it was done twice that it must not be a simple typo. However, it was probably done that way to make the files computer readable; the UNISYS data comes from Best Track files that aren't exactly human readable. I think we should still keep it at Alice since that's the name of the storm. --Golbez 19:49, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Joining Wiki-Project
Most of my time spent here on Wikipedia is spent trying to improve the hurricane articles. I will help with the tasks listed in on the Wiki-project page but I feel attending hurricane articles needing attention is what's I've been doing since I joined Wikipedia. Therefore I feel that formally joining the project is unnessisary. Just know that I'm always willing to help. -- Hurricane Eric - my dropsonde - archive 22:24, 9 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] DYK
Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article 1959 Mexico Hurricane, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page. |
[edit] Get your own basin :)
Just kidding, but I appreciate any help you are giving to the Western Pacific. For a while it seemed like I would be the only one there, so I am thankful for the help you are giving there. Keep up the great work there and elsewhere. Hurricanehink 20:04, 17 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Epac retirement
No, I really don't know anything about epac storms other than what's in wikipedia. My restructuring of the list on the notable-cyclones page wasn't intended to add any new data, just to improve the formatting.
I agree some sources are needed, and I have no idea where to get them. Let's see... http://www.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/tcfaq/B3.html mentions only kenna.

[edit] Re:1970 Pacific hurricane season
Any time, I'm happy to help. It's ashame how little information there is on this season pre-1990, but somehow it got done. Good job with the exact figures, I couldn't find any references to what storm doing any damage. Now there's just one more season to do, and EPAC is done! Hurricanehink 22:59, 17 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Ava
I tweaked it a bit further. Ava was definately not the earliest in a season that Cat 5 formed anywhere on Earth. 5s in the West Pacific frequently form in May. They have also been know to form even earlier than that in that basin. -- Hurricane Eric - my dropsonde - archive 21:54, 22 November 2005 (UTC)
- Heh heh, and "anywhere on earth" probably means "anywhere in the northern hemisphere", because comparisons across hemisphere aren't possible here. Jdorje 21:01, 25 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] 1959 Mexico Hurricane
How does it look now? I use shapes to distinguish the cyclone type and color for strength. Now it needs a better key though. Jdorje 21:01, 25 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Iwa_1959_track.png
You listed Image:Iwa_1959_track.png for deletion here at the en: Wikipedia. The image is at Wikimedia Commons. I am afraid that the deletion request will have to be handled there. Thanks. Jkelly 04:55, 26 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] 1997 Pacific hurricane season
Hi Madeline, I've been bold and made some major changes to the 1997 Pacific hurricane season article. I've split up the storms by month, but I'm not happy with the last two time periods... I'm trying to figure out how to best combine short sections like Tropical Storm Kevin and Tropical Storm Marty with other sections, but I'm not sure how to do it best. Let me know what you think of the new structure (focusing especially on the sections covering June, July and August) and if you like it, we can figure out what to do about the other four months.
I hope you understand that we're just trying to make the article better—when I tried to get my first article featured, it had alot of short subsections (take a look at what welding looked like before). A few people objected to the FAC on the grounds that the sections at the bottom were too short, so I combined them and added some other material and before long the article was featured. Yours should end up in the same place. You're doing great work! --Spangineeres (háblame) 23:32, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
- Sorry to have hijacked your nomination. I agree that storm headings may be more useful in some cases, but the unfortunate result is an article with an unwieldy table of contents. Even featured articles that are 80kb long don't have tables of contents that long (see The Cantos, for example). In a season such as this one with lots of storms, it's tough to figure out what to do. Having a special section for three lines of text (like Tropical Storm Kevin) doesn't make much sense to me. But I'm not sure what else to do—having 25 sections seems a little extreme, especially for an article of this length. Would it be OK to have sections for just the hurricanes, and keep the non-hurricane storms that came right after in the same section? I'm just brainstorming here; there has to be a way to make this work out.
- As for the retirement statement, I don't understand why that shouldn't go in a section on the name—since after all, it's one of those names in the table that's getting retired. And having an extra section for one sentence is unnecessary. I switched the images up mostly on a whim (I personally dislike having images on the left to begin a new section); the problem with trying to determine where pictures go is that they show up in different places on everyone's screens (some people use 800x600, others 1024x768, others 1600x1200). In my experience, the page will look a little bit bad in someone's browser, regardless of what you do, so I usually don't worry about it too much. But in general, image location doesn't make much of a difference, so I've switched it back. --Spangineeres (háblame) 04:19, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you!
I appreciate the barn star and the kind words you said. You yourself have done wonders to the Hurricane project as well. It seems that there are 7 of us who work outside of the 2005 pages (come to think of it, you, me, E. Brown, Jdorje, Rattleman, NSLE, and Storm05 (can't think of any others). There's a whole world of history only few have discovered, and I hope you continue your great work (as I hope I will :) Hurricanehink 00:29, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Hurricane Roxanne
I'm not saying it's not true...I'm saying it's too trivial even to qualify for a trivia section. Only formation of a category 3 hurricane in the northwest carribbean in october since 1961? What does that even mean? Jdorje 02:02, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
