Former Route 96 was one of the original 1922 highways. Its eastern terminus was at Route 3 (now U.S. Route 65) at Marshall. Its western terminus was at Route 2 (now Interstate 70/U.S. Route 40) east of Odessa. The road is now largely Route 20.
