The original Missouri Route 38 is a decommissioned highway in Missouri. It was one of the original 1922 Missouri highways. Its eastern terminus was at former Missouri State Highway 16 (now U.S. Highway 60) at Republic. Its western terminus was at Missouri State Highway 1 at Carthage, Missouri. Within a few years, it would become largely part of Missouri State Highway 14 (from Republic to Fidelity) and U.S. Highway 71 Alternate from Fidelity to Carthage.
[edit] History
The section of highway which became Missouri 14 would later become U.S. Highway 166. When Interstate 44 was built, US 166 was decommissioned from Springfield to Joplin and the road became Missouri State Highway 174 from Republic to Mount Vernon and I-44 to Fidelity.
The section which became Alternate US 71 is now U.S. Highway 71 and Missouri State Highway 571.
[edit] Currently
Old Missouri 38 is now Missouri 174 from Republic to Mount Vernon, I-44 to Fidelity, and US 71 and Missouri 571 to Carthage.
