Mission trip

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A mission trip is where lay members (and sometimes clergy) of a church or volunteers travel to help others for an extended period of time. At the same time, through their actions and good works, those participating in the mission trip spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Mission trips can and do go anywhere. They may go to Third World countries, impoverished rural areas in First World countries, areas that have been victimized by natural disasters (i.e., floods, hurricanes, etc.), or low-income inner city neighborhoods. Likewise, mission trips don't necessarily have to be to faraway places. Often, a mission trip will consist of members of a suburban congregation spending their days helping out low-income residents of inner city neighborhoods, working in such areas as food banks, Habitat for Humanity, soup kitchens, cleaning up trash on the streets, helping kids learn to read, etc. They are fun.
