[edit] Boundaries

Mission Valley stretches as far west as Interstate 5 and as far east as Interstate 15 and is divided into two sections (Mission Valley East and Mission Valley West) due to its massive size. The exact boundaries of where these two locations split is disputed but many agree that the two are separated by C-163.

To the east up Mission Valley is Mission San Diego de Alcala, for which the area is named. At the southwestern end is Presidio Park.

[edit] Freeway Interaction

Mission Valley serves as a path for Interstate Highway 8 and is crossed at its mouth by I-5. Both Interstate Highway 8 and I-5 serve as the major east-west and north-south routes respectively, for San Diego. I-15, I-805, and C-163 serve Mission Valley as well.

[edit] Shopping

Three major shopping malls in Mission Valley are Fashion Valley mall (Mission Valley West), Hazard Center mall (Mission Valley East) and Westfield Mission Valley mall (Mission Valley East). The area along Interstate 8 running roughly from Presidio Park to C-163 is lined with many hotels on both sides of the freeway, and is commonly referred to as "Hotel Circle". Other commercial developments can be found in the valley as well, including smaller shopping plazas, auto malls and vocational schools.

[edit] Sports

Mission Valley is also home to Qualcomm Stadium, where the Chargers football team plays its home games. At the outlet of Mission Valley is SeaWorld, Mission Bay and many other San Diego attractions.
