The Mission Center Mall was a small mall, located in Mission, Kansas

[edit] Mission Center Mall

The Mission Center Mall was built in 1956, and featured a large parking garage, 2 anchors, and approximately 50 storefronts. The mall was built, wedged in between Roe Avenue, Johnson Drive, Shawnee Mission Parkway, and Roeland Avenue, in Mission, Kansas. The mall did very well, despite it's old age, always about 65-75% occupied. Mission Center Mall was owned by Copaken White & Blitt, an elderly couple. They recently sold the mall, no longer wanting the burden. The new owners immediately made plans to tear it down, and in its place would be a mixed-use development, called The Gateway. This plan began in August 2005, and the mall would be closed in February, 2006, and demolished shortly after. The last stores to close were Wolf Camera, and a Christopher & Banks, which stayed open until closing day. The mall was very beautiful, featuring a staircase with a pool of water below it, tall skylights, and decorative banners and trees.
