Miss Universe Canada is not related to the previous Miss Canada. The Miss Universe Canada contest was created in 2003, with the first winner of this new Canadian competition being Leanne Marie Cecile who made the top 15 in Miss Universe 2002.
Natalie Glebova was the winner in 2005, and went on to the win title Miss Universe. 3 of the 4 Miss Universe Canada winners have placed in the finals of Miss Universe, Cecile finished in the top 10 in 2003, Glebova won in 2005, and Alice Panikian finished in 6th place in 2006. Only Venessa Fisher has failed to place in the finals of Miss Universe, in 2004.
