[edit] National Updates

  • Cambodia and Nepal are expected to send their first ever delegates to the Miss Universe pageant next year.
  • Barbados, Belize, Curacao, Italy, Kenya, Netherlands, and Vietnam are all expected to return after failing to send delegates this year in Los Angeles.
  • Seychelles is returning with its second delegate ever, after a 12-year absence.
  • Panama cancelled its national pageant due to lack of interest and sponsorship. The country might not attend the 2007 event.
  • Lebanon cancelled its national pageant due to the political issues in Lebanon.
  • Austria, Honduras and Zimbabwe are all expected to return after short absences.
  • Serbia and Montenegro will compete individually, for the first time in Miss Universe history.
  • It has been misreported by internet outlets that the United Kingdom will be represented by Preeti Desai, which is not true. Preeti Desai holds the "Miss Great Britain" title, and she will compete in the "Miss Tourism World" pageant organized by John Singh. The UK and Ireland franchises of Miss Universe are owned by Kieran Murray, and his pageants will be held next May.
  • It was announced that the winner of the official "Miss Russia" pageant will attend Miss Universe 2007. Only twice in the history of the pageant, "Miss Russia" winners have competed in Miss Universe: Alexandra Petrova (Miss Russia 1996) competed in Miss Universe 1999; and Oxana Fedorova (Miss Russia 2001) competed in 2002, winning the title. Other delegates representing Russia were not official titleholders.

[edit] Host City Selection News

  • No announcement has been made about the host city for Miss Universe 2007.
  • In 12/05 Puerto Rico's newspaper "Primera Hora" reported that the 2007 pageant will take place in Puerto Rico next year.

[edit] Records/Trivia

  • Bolivia was the first country to select their delegate for Miss Universe 2007.
  • Mauritius will be sending the 1st Runner-Up from their pageant, as the winner is underage(only 17).
  • Poland will be sending their 1st Runner-Up as well, as their winner competed in Miss World 2006.
