Miss Universe 2005

The Miss Universe 2005 Pageant was held in Bangkok, Thailand on May 31, 2005, to help the tsunami-struck nation win tourists back to the area. China and Chile also bid, but failed, to host the contest. Miss Universe Canada, Natalie Glebova was crowned Miss Universe 2005 by Miss Universe 2004, Jennifer Hawkins of Australia. The top fifteen was dominated by contestants from the Americas and Caribbean, whilst the top five consisted entirely of such women. The winner is a Canadian citizen, but she is Russian by birth, only moving to Canada at age 12.

- 2nd runner-up - Renata Sone (Dominican Republic)
- 3rd runner-up - Laura Elizondo (Mexico)
- 4th runner-up - Monica Spear (Venezuela)
- The Top 10 (in alphabetical order) were Elena Ralph (Israel), Ieva Kokorevica (Latvia), Debora Sulca (Peru), Fiona Hefti (Switzerland) and Chelsea Cooley (USA).
- The Top 15 (in alphabetical order) were Evagelia Aravani (Greece), Artika Sari Devi (Indonesia), Helene Traasavik (Norway), Claudia Henkel (South Africa) and Magdalene Walcott (Trinidad and Tobago).

- There are three delegates who did not attend the pageant (whatever the/their reasons): Sharlita Millington (British Virgin Islands), Jana Kuvaitseva (Estonia) and Shivern Peters (Saint Vincent and the Grenadines).
- The Misses Luisana Nikulay Cicilia (Aruba), Asli Bayram (Germany), Roseline Amusu (Nigeria) and Magdalene “Maggie” Walcott (Trinidad & Tobago) were not the original delegates of their country. They are the replacement for Maya Danielle Frigerio (Aruba, dethroned), Natalie Elvira Ackermann Montealegre (Germany), Akinnifesi Omowunmi (Nigeria) and Cheryl Anrakh (Trinidad & Tobago, dethroned) respectively.
- The tallest among the delegates are Yukari Kuzuya (Japan) and Jelena Mandic (Serbia & Montenegro), both were standing 6 ft 1 in (1.85 m).
- The shortest delegate was Wenika Ewing (Turks & Caicos Islands) standing only 5 ft 3 in (1.6 m).
- The oldest delegate was Rozanne Diasz (Sri Lanka) who was 27 years old.
- The countries that failed or didn't have delegates for their countries this Miss Universe 2005 but have delegates in the last year's Miss Universe 2004 are (excluding the delegates who did not attend the pageant stated first above): Austria, Cayman Islands, Estonia, Ghana, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Sweden and Taiwan.
- The following countries returned after some years of absence: United Kingdom (last participated in 2000 as Great Britain), US Virgin Islands (last participated in 2002), Sri Lanka (last participated in 1996), Indonesia (last participated in 1996), Zambia (last participated in 1999), Namibia (last participated in 2003), and Albania (last participated in 2003).
- Latvia participated for the first time.
