Miss International 2006

Miss International 2006 was the 46th Miss International pageant helded in Tokyo, Japan and Beijing, China. A number of 52 delegates were in China for the pageant. The delegates arrived in Tokyo, Japan on the 12th. The finals were helded on November 11, 2006 in China. There were 12 semifinalists, and from there a top 3. Binibining Pilipinas (Miss Philippines) International 2005, also Miss International 2005, Precious Lara Quigaman crowned the new winner. She is Miss Venezuela, Daniela Di Giacomo.

October 12: The delegates have arrived in Tokyo, Japan for the pageant. The number of delegates is still unconfirmed as some might arrive later.

October 13: Like past pageants, the press met the delegates in swimsuits and national costumes. They also selected the Miss Photogenic winner. This year as the pageant will be held in 2 countries, there will be two Miss Photogenics, selected in Tokyo and Beijing. Miss Thailand was selected in Tokyo as Miss Photogenic.

October 16: The delegates attended the Miss Japan International 2006 pageant.

October 18: The delegates paraded in national costumes. Then they competed for the Miss Goodwill title. Miss Puerto Rico, Sharon Gomez won the title.

October 25: The 52 delegates arrived in China for the pageant.

October 26: The local Chinese press chose their Miss Photogenic. Miss Finland, Karoliina Yläjoki was named Miss Photogenic in China.

October 31: The delegates planted a tree for charity auctions. The annual Miss International forum was held.

November 7: The preliminary competition was held. The delegates competed in swimsuits, national costumes, and evening gowns. The top 12 semifinalists will be announced next Saturday during the finals. Six awards were given out: Best Preliminary Performance, Best Figure, Most Beautiful Smile, Best Overall Style, Most Vibrant, and the winner of Compassionate. The winners are: Misses Germany, Colombia, Hong Kong, Spain, Brazil, and China (respectively).

November 11: The finals were held in Beijing.

  • For the second time only (after 2004), there will be two Miss Photogenic winners due to the different choices for the Tokyo and Beijing press.
  • Miss Egypt, Elham Wagdi participated at Miss Earth 2005 but failed to place in the top 16.
  • 52 delegates are the confirmed number of delegates.
  • There was a preliminary competition helded rather than choosing the top 12 semifinalists during the final night (like in 2005).
  • Venezuela wins it's 5th Miss International crown.
  • The nation of Guadeloupe places at Miss International for the very first time.
  • The country of Hong Kong wins it's 5th Miss Friendship award, 3rd consecutive win also.
  • The media decided to boycott this year's Miss International contest, after security guards at the venue severely beat up a photographer. Practically no photos made the news agencies and information about the contest was limited to a few lines. Apparently the organization also had problems with SINA, the main sponsor, which created a special website for the contest. SINA refused to keep updating the website.
  • Media interest in the contest was so little that the photos featured in several internet forums were taken by the delegates themselves. I
