The very first Miss Earth pageant, organized by Carousel Productions, was held on October 28, 2001 in Quezon City, Philippines. There were 42 candidates that attended the event. Catharina Svensson was crown as the pageant's first winner, and have her nation Denmark receive its first international pageant title.
