Miscou Island

Miscou Island (French: Île Miscou) is located in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, off the northeastern tip of New Brunswick, Canada. The island is mostly settled by Acadians, and is culturally considered to be part of the Acadian Peninsula region.

As of 2001, the island had a population of 643. The major industries include peat farming and fishing. The island is known for the Miscou Island Lighthouse, which was built in 1856 and is located at the northern end of the island. It is the oldest operating lighthouse in Maritime Canada. [1]

The first bridge to Miscou Island, connecting from Île de Lamèque, was opened in 1996. Prior to then, the island was reached only by ferry, or an ice road in the winter.
