Mischa Lecter
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mischa Lecter is a fictional character that was first mentioned in the novel Hannibal and appeared in the prequel Hannibal Rising.
Mischa Lecter appeared in a series of flashback sequences. She was the younger sister of Hannibal Lecter. Her relationship with her brother and her death was the major catalyst that led him to cannibalism and serial murder.
Hannibal and Mischa shared a strong bond together. She was one of the only person not frightened by Hannibal's odd, intense behavior. When Lecter was six, a group of German deserters retreating from the Russian invaders shelled his family's estate, killing his parents and most of the servants.
Lecter, Mischa, and other local children were rounded up by the group of deserters to be used as sustenance during the cold Baltic winter. Deeming Hannibal too skinny, the soldiers chose Mischa instead. Hannibal prayed and prayed to see his sister again, but after he escaped, he found that Mischa had been killed and cannibalized. This destroyed his faith in God and would shape the rest of his life.
Lecter would later come to see his nemesis (and obsession) Clarice Starling as a surrogate for Mischa.
Mischa's role and character is expected to be expanded in the upcoming prequel novel and movie adaptation, Hannibal Rising, in which she will be played by Helena Lia Tachovka.
