[edit] What am I reading?
Just for fun, I've decided to include a section on my page about whatever book I happen to be reading at the moment.
[edit] Current
The Dune series, specifically Dune: The Butlerian Jihad, by Brian Herbert & Kevin J. Anderson.
- One of my favorite series, but it's been years since I last read them. There are also two new books that weren't out when I last read the series, so I'm very excited about them.
[edit] Past
Dogs of God: Columbus, the Inquisition, and the Defeat of the Moors, by James Reston, Jr. Amazon
- I often pick up books on parts of history that I know little about, and I have to say that I had no idea how interesting this period in Spanish history is. From the Inquistion to the Reconquista to the glorification of Queen Isabella (pictured) to godlike status. A good read, I'll certainly be looking at this author's other works.
Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France, by Leonie Frieda Amazon
- An absolutely fascinating book about a relatively obscure section of history. Catherine is often overlooked in favor of her contemporaries, Elizabeth I of England and Mary, Queen of Scots, but in this book she shines through. She managed to keep power for nearly thirty years, outliving her husband and all but two of her children, and this book brings the times she lived in to life. I very highly recommend it, and look forward to this author's next book.
