Mirmande

Mirmande is one commune française, located in département of Drome and it région the Rhone-Alps. ==Géographie== Located in a landscape of hills, Mirmande is a typical perched village of Drome. Botanical village with its flowers of rubble, Mirmande counts among the 100 more beautiful villages of France. ==Histoire== Mirmande finds its origin of “mirus” (marvellous) and “mandare” (to charge [somebody] of). Called Mirmanda with the Template:XIIe century, Castrum Mirimandae with the Template:XIIIe century, Mirimanda and Miremande with the Template:XVIe century and finally Mirmande with XVIIe century.

Mentioned as of 1238, the village is an old property of Adhémar which yielded it to the bishop Valence. In the middle of the Template:XIVe century, the borough develops and a second rampart, still visible today, delimits it. The Template:XVIIe century sees the village increasing out the walls, but it is with the Template:XIXe century that Mirmande develops with the sériculture (culture of the worms with silk) which makes live nearly 3.000 people. With the decline of this economy, the village knows difficult hours: the Template:XXe century sees the abandonment and the collapse partial of the Holy-Foy church, in addition a law exonerating of taxes the houses without roof, of many owners make discover the roofs and the become houses of the ruins are repurchased at the price of the tiles.

The village will reappear thanks to the many artists… Andre Lhote (1885 - 1962), painter cubist and writer contribute to the revival of Mirmande. ==Personnalities related to the commune== *En 1924, the painter Andre Lhote discovers the village then about abandoned. The majority of the houses are in ruins. Lhote will acquire of the one of them, still in good condition, and will come every year to install a “academy of summer there”.

It will contribute to the rebirth and the safeguard of the village. In 1948, it will succeed in making register the Holy-Foy church with the inventory of the historic buildings. *La “peintress” Marcelle Rivier lived nearly 50 years this village. * Haroun Tazieff, celebrates it volcanologist, was the mayor of Mirmande of 1979 with 1989. Under its impulse the classified village profits from a zone of protection of the urban and paysagé architectural heritage (ZPPAUP). Extensions of the classified site take place in 1975 and 1976.
