From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Emerik (Mirko) Derenčin (Hungarian Imre Derencsény) was the ban of Croatia along with Ivan Bot in 1493 during the Battle of Krbava field.
Derenčin was the commander of the Hungarian-Croatian troops at this battle near Udbina against the Ottoman Empire's forces. It was here that the Croats suffered a devastating loss. Derenčin himself along with several dukes were taken captive and killed. This defeat was one of the worst of the Ottoman-Croatian wars for the Croats and left thousands dead.
