[edit] Album information

The album, produced by David Foster, is part of a CD-and-book multimedia collection, with Dion's music providing the soundtrack to Geddes' pictorial book celebrating the joy of babies. Among the songs on the album are remakes of John Lennon's "Beautiful Boy" and Roberta Flack's "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," and original songs such as the title track "Miracle," which was written by Linda Thompson and Steve Dorff in 2001 for Dion's album A New Day Has Come to celebrate the birth of her son René-Charles, but the song was never published on that album. "Brahms' Lullaby" and "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" are Dion's previously released tracks (on These Are Special Times and All the Way... A Decade of Song respectively). Live performances of "If I Could" and "What a Wonderful World" are available on the album A New Day... Live in Las Vegas. "A Mother's Prayer" is an exclusive solo version of "The Prayer" (a 1998 duet with Andrea Bocelli on These Are Special Times). On October 1, 2003 Céline performed "Le Loup, la Biche et le Chevalier (Une Chanson Douce)" for the very first time with Henri Salvador (writer and original performer of the song) during the taping of a TV Special 1 Fille & 4 Types. Album version of this song was later included on Dion's greatest hits album On Ne Change Pas. The track "Baby Close Your Eyes" is also a cover, sang originally by Carol Welsman.

Miracle was released in three different formats:

  • CD
  • CD + Making of the CD DVD + 60-page booklet (limited edition)
  • 180-page hardcover book + CD + Making of the book DVD

The first (radio) single off the album was "Beautiful Boy," followed by "In Some Small Way." "Je Lui Dirai" - a bonus track in France (included previously on 1 Fille & 4 Types album) was released as a radio single in that country. Meantime, the title track was issued as a radio single in the United Kingdom and Asia. There were no music videos made.

Céline performed "In Some Small Way" during her A New Day... show, between December 2004 and January 2005. She sang it as a duet with her backup singer Barnev Valsaint. "If I Could" and "What a Wonderful World" were a part of the regular set list.

[edit] Chart success

Miracle topped the charts in Canada, Belgium and the United States (Top Kid Audio - a whole year on it, including 18 weeks at the top). It has sold 3.5 million copies worldwide, including 1 million in U.S. alone. The album was certified platinum in U.S. and gold in UK, France, Belgium and Italy.

"Beautiful Boy" peaked at #18 on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart in U.S. and "In Some Small Way" reached #28.
