In its history, the popular BBC drama Holby City has had characters who make only limited appearances either for a specific storyline or to bring entertainment to the show.
[edit] Simon Shaughnessy
Simon Shaughnessy was a minor recurring character in the popular TV drama Holby City. He was played by Andrew Dunn.
Simon was the abusive husband of long-serving character Kath Shaughnessy. His motives for beating her seemed to be caused by unemployment and alcoholism. He was beaten up by his son Danny after the latter found out how his father had been treating his mother. Eventually Kath divorced him and remarried.
[edit] Dr. Percy "Abra" Durant
Dr Percy 'Abra' Durant is a recurring character in the long-running TV series Holby City. To date he has made three appearances in the show.
Abra debuted in a special one-off episode set in Ghana. Abra is a friend of long-serving character Eric "Ric" Griffin and is in charge of a hospital in Ghana. He is largely a comedic character but is shown to have a strong sense of medical ethics.
The character proved so popular he made two further appearances in 2005. The first appearance saw him performing an operation on a patient were he used a heart transplant which another patient had rejected against the Board's orders arguing that in Ghana nothing including "third hand heart values" go to waste. The second appearance showed him in a more serious light, he appeared this time to have a liver transplant carried out on his secret son.
The character recently joined the show as a full-time cast member for at least nine months.
Abra is played by Adrian Edmondson.

Marty Campbell-Gore was the brothe of the emmiment surgeon Mr. Campbell-Gore. Marty was a criminal who owed gangsters money. He was played by Tom McGovern.
