Broderick Bode (b. 1947, d. January 1996) was an Unspeakable, a worker in the Department of Mysteries in the Ministry. In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, he is placed under the Imperius Curse by Death Eater Lucius Malfoy, who sought to obtain the prophecy concerning Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort. Bode suffered spell damage from his attempt to steal the prophecy and was sent to St Mungo's Hospital; he was subsequently strangled by a potted Devil's Snare plant at Christmas to prevent him from revealing any information about the Death Eaters' plot. Bode was known for speaking in a sepulchral tone and looking sallow.
[edit] Amelia Bones

Amelia Bones | |
---|---|
Gender | Female |
Hair colour | Grey |
Allegiance | Ministry of Magic (supported Dumbledore[HP5]) |
Actor | Sian Thomas |
First appearance | Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix |
Amelia Susan Bones (d. July 1996) was the head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. She is described as being a square-jawed witch with close-cropped grey hair and a monocle.
Harry's classmate from Hufflepuff, Susan Bones, is her niece. Her brother Edgar Bones was a member of the Order of the Phoenix during the first war and was killed together with his wife and children by Death Eaters.
Madam Bones sat on the Wizengamot and presided over Harry's trial in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in which Cornelius Fudge acted as the prosecutor and Albus Dumbledore was the defence counsel as well as a witness. Despite poor treatment of Harry by Fudge, Madam Bones managed to keep the trial fairly unbiased and Harry was found innocent by a large majority of the court. During the trial, Madam Bones expresses admiration for Harry's ability to produce a corporeal patronus at such a young age.
She was brutally murdered by Voldemort personally shortly before the beginning of the story of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. According to Fudge, the recently-dismissed Minister for Magic, she put up a good fight. Afterwards, some members of the Order of the Phoenix referred to her as one of the greatest witches of the era, and several wizards felt deeply troubled by Bones' death.
British actress Sian Thomas will portray Bones in the upcoming film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.[1]
[edit] Dawlish
Harry Potter character | |
Dawlish | |
---|---|
Gender | Male |
Hair colour | Grey |
Allegiance | Ministry of Magic |
Actor | Richard Leaf |
First appearance | Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix |
Dawlish is an Auror. He is very capable and self-assured, and is described as a "tough-looking wizard" with "very short, wiry" grey hair. He left Hogwarts with Outstandings in all his N.E.W.T.s.
In Harry Potter's fifth year at Hogwarts, Dawlish accompanied Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge to Hogwarts to confront Harry about his secret Dumbledore's Army meetings. Dawlish was knocked out along with Kingsley Shacklebolt, Dolores Umbridge, and Fudge when Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, who had taken the blame for the Army on himself, escaped. A few weeks later, Dawlish was among the wizards who attempted to arrest Hagrid when the gamekeeper was sacked by Umbridge. Still later, Dawlish arrived at the Atrium of the Ministry of Magic with Fudge after the battle at the Department of Mysteries was over. Fudge then sent him to the Department of Mysteries to attend to the captured Death Eaters.
The name Dawlish almost certainly came from the name of a seacoast town in Devon, in the United Kingdom. It is located near Exeter, where author J.K. Rowling attended university.
He is last seen in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince guarding Hogwarts school after the commencement of the Second War. He is sent to follow Dumbledore when the Headmaster leaves school to search for Voldemort's Horcruxes but is "regretfully" hexed by the shrewd wizard.
British actor Richard Leaf will portray Dawlish in the upcoming film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.[1]
[edit] Amos Diggory
Harry Potter character | |

Amos Diggory | |
---|---|
Gender | Male |
Hair colour | Brown |
House | Hufflepuff (presumed) |
Parentage | Pure-blood |
Allegiance | Ministry of Magic |
Actor | Jeff Rawle |
First appearance | Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire |
Amos Diggory works in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures at the Ministry of Magic, and first appears in a few scenes in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Unlike his son, Cedric, who is quite modest, Amos likes to boast about his son's accomplishments and gives Harry a hard time. He is quite emotional and often gets carried away with himself. The Diggory family lives either in or near to the village Ottery St. Catchpole, near the Weasley family.
In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Amos Diggory found Winky lying beneath the Dark Mark at the Quidditch World Cup and questioned her about what happened. Later, he asked Arthur Weasley to help Alastor Moody out of trouble the day Barty Crouch Jr. and Peter Pettigrew kidnapped him: thinking the incident was another false alarm, he wanted to ensure that Moody's new job at Hogwarts wouldn't be jeopardised.
Amos was openly rude to Harry before the Third Task, on account of getting all the Hogwarts publicity in the Triwizard Tournament when Cedric himself was also a selected representative of Hogwarts—making Molly Weasley very angry, and almost starting a confrontation with her before his wife stopped him. After his son's death, he thanked Harry for returning Cedric's body to him and his wife, and assured Harry that they didn't blame him for Cedric's death.
British actor Jeff Rawle portrayed Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
[edit] Mafalda Hopkirk
Harry Potter character | |
Mafalda Hopkirk | |
---|---|
Gender | Female |
Allegiance | Ministry of Magic |
Actor | Jessica Stevenson |
First appearance | Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire |
Mafalda Hopkirk worker in the Improper Use of Magic Office in the Ministry, and is responsible for sending out warnings when underage magic is detected. She has never made a proper appearance in the books, and her name was only mentioned in two instances in the series. The first was when she sent Harry a notice in Chamber of Secrets when magic was detected in his home, though it was really Dobby who performed the spell. This shows that the Ministry cannot detect the conjurer of the magic; however, because Harry was the only known person in the house to be a wizard, he was sent the warning. She also sent Harry a second warning in Order of the Phoenix for performing the Patronus Charm in the presence of his cousin, Dudley. This was really Harry's doing, though he did it in self-defence. She alerted him that, for this second warning, he would be put on trial.
Mafalda was not mentioned as sending a letter when Aunt Marge was blown up in Prisoner of Azkaban; since the incident was detected and rectified by the Ministry, it is to be assumed that Fudge (who was anxious to keep Harry out of trouble at that time) told her not to send a letter (or that she did send a letter, which was delivered to the Dursley house).
British actress Jessica Stevenson will voice Hopkirk in the upcoming film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.[2]
[edit] Bertha Jorkins
Harry Potter character | |
Bertha Jorkins | |
---|---|
Gender | Female |
Allegiance | Ministry of Magic |
First appearance | Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire |
Bertha Jorkins (b. circa 1957/1958, d. July 1994) was the Ministry of Magic employee killed by Lord Voldemort. Years before, she accidentally discovered that Barty Crouch Jr., who supposedly died in Azkaban prison, was still alive. Barty Crouch Sr. silenced her with a Memory Charm, permanently damaging her memory. Voldemort tortured her to break through the Memory Charm, giving him information about the Triwizard Tournament and Crouch Jr. In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Voldemort formulates a plan to use Harry in a ritual to restore his body before killing him. During a duel between Harry and Voldemort in the graveyard at Little Hangleton, Bertha is one of the shadows that spills out from Voldemort's wand and helps Harry escape.
Bertha Jorkins was at Hogwarts the same time as James Potter and company. She was known as nosy and with a good head for gossip.
[edit] Griselda Marchbanks
Harry Potter character | |
Griselda Marchbanks | |
---|---|
Gender | Female |
Allegiance | None |
First appearance | Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix |
Griselda Marchbanks is an elderly witch who heads the Wizarding Examinations Authority and is an elder of the Wizengamot (although, along with Tiberius Ogden, she resigns her position in protest of Dolores Umbridge as Hogwarts High Inquisitor).
The Daily Prophet includes her in its smear campaign, insinuating that she has "links to subversive goblin groups". If the accuracy of this information is on a par with that published about Harry and Dumbledore, it can be assumed to be false.
Madam Marchbanks is described as tiny and stooped, her face so lined that it appears to be draped in cobwebs. With this, she also appears to be quite deaf, as she spoke in loud tones. She is at least a decade older than even Dumbledore himself, since when he was about seventeen, she was already working for the Wizarding Examinations Authority and personally administered his N.E.W.T.s. She asks Dolores Umbridge where Dumbledore is as she enters the Great Hall before the OWL examinations, much to the annoyance of Umbridge, who would rather people forget about Dumbledore. Madam Marchbanks comments on Dumbledore's extraordinary wizarding abilities, stating that he had performed things with a wand she'd never seen before. Draco Malfoy claims she is friends with the Malfoys, although Neville Longbottom highly doubts this, as Marchbanks is also close friends with Neville's grandmother Augusta.
Marchbanks personally examines Draco Malfoy's practical Charms O.W.L., as well as Harry Potter's Astronomy, Divination and Potions O.W.L.s.
[edit] Bob Ogden
Harry Potter character | |
Bob Ogden | |
---|---|
Gender | Male |
Allegiance | Ministry of Magic |
Actor | None yet |
First appearance | Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince |
Bob Ogden worked as a Magical Law Enforcer before he died. His memory was one of the memories that Dumbledore showed Harry about Voldemort. In the memory, Bob Ogden tries to arrest Morfin Gaunt. Morfin's father, Marvolo Gaunt, reveals that they are the last descendants of Salazar Slytherin. It is also revealed in the course of the arrest that Merope Gaunt is in love with a Muggle living in town (Tom Riddle, Sr), leading to Marvolo and Morfin attempting to kill Merope and Ogden. Ogden flees the scene, before returning to the Gaunt hovel with reinforcements and arresting Morfin and Marvolo
He shares a name with Tiberius Ogden, a member of the Wizengamot until 1995, though it is unknown if they are related.
[edit] Williamson
Harry Potter character | |
Williamson | |
---|---|
Gender | Male |
Allegiance | Ministry of Magic |
First appearance | Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix |
Williamson is an Auror. After the Deparment of Mysteries battle, he, Dawlish, and Cornelius Fudge are startled to see Voldemort in the Ministry of Magic. Apparently, he remained on good terms with Fudge and thought that Dumbledore was creating the problems for the Ministry in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. He wears his hair in a ponytail.
